Sponsor an Orphan's Scholarship!
This fundraiser supports Oak Tree Run 2016
About This Fundraiser
I feel so blessed that my very first 10k is sponsoring such an amazing cause at the same time. Any small contribution will help us try to send as many orphans to school for the whole school year. Please see below for more information on the Oak Tree Project. Thank you for your support!!!
Once orphans turn 18, they are given something like $5000 from the government, pushed out of the children's homes (orphanages) in which they have likely spent their entire lives, and left alone without any emotional, financial, social, or spiritual support. In Korea, bloodline and family is extremely important--so much so that orphans, who do not have a family line to speak of, are not even considered for certain jobs or opportunities. This means that even if they get into college, they have to work late hours at very low paying jobs, take their classes, and study--and when they're frustrated or discouraged, or when they're in any kind of bind, there is no one to offer help or encouragement. In addition to depression or dropping out, orphans at this age are targeted by pimps to work at hostess clubs and eventually into prostitution. This scholarship provides support for these orphans--the more scholarship funding they have, the more orphans they can support.
So PLEASE, PLEASE, help us send them to school!!! :D

About Oak Tree Run 2016
On Saturday, October 15, 2016, Oak Tree Project will be partnering with a race for underprivileged children in Korea to raise funds for scholarships for orphans in South Korea. Orphans in Korea are on their own after they graduate from high school and many struggle to get by financially and emotionally. It is especially difficult for those who get into college who have to work while studying. The stress and loneliness leads to depression and desperation for many, which can lead to prostitution, joining gangs, or even suicide. Oak Tree Project is a scholarship and mentoring program designed to not just help the orphans have funds through college, but to also receive the emotional support and guidance they need to succeed.
